In her warlord days, Xena was nursed back to health by a group of desert nomads; now Kelton has come to ask her to help them retrieve a sacred chest stolen by Malthus which contains the world's most powerful weapon. Malthus is planning to auction the weapon to the highest bidder. Xena and Autolycus, the self-proclaimed King of Thieves, get into the auction by masquerading as the philosopher-assassin Sinteres and his scantily-clad assistant Cherish. They find the right room but instead of the coveted chest, they find a very dead Malthus. When the real Sinteres shows up, with an unconscious Gabrielle in tow, Autolycus and Xena must reveal their true identities. A wild battle ensues in which the chest is opened and a bright light shoots out, but Xena warns her friends not to turn away. The chest and its contents, a set of marble tablets with rules on them, are returned to Kelton and Autolycus secretly returns the reward money to them as well.
